Ghana Shorthorn

Ghanaian Shorthorn, Gold Coast Shorthorn, WAS (but ambiguous).

Special Characteristics:
Small body size with good beef type conformation. The horns are short and thin. The back-line tends to be concave, with a rising rump. They have black pied colour and quiet disposition.

Main Location:
Distributed all over Ghana, from the Gold Coast to the north, but particularly concentrated in the north-western parts around Bole, Wa, Lawra and Tumu. A high concentration of relatively pure Ghana Shorthorn is also found around Bouna in neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire, and near Gaoua in Burkina Faso.
Origin:
A subpopulation of the Savannah Shorthorns.
