Special Characteristics: 
Fairly deep-bodied with smallish hump and short horns; coat colour is usually black and occasionally brown.
Main Location: 
Found in the south of the Kavirondo Gulf of Lake Victoria towards the Kenya-Tanzania border.
Origin: 
The Watende are kept by the Watende/Kuria tribes in the area south of the Kavirondo Gulf of Lake Victoria, adjacent to the western limit of the Maasai. The cattle are believed to have descended from the cattle brought into Kenya by the Nilo-Hamitic tribes that migrated during the 17th century into Kenya from the north and settled in western Kenya, south of Lake Turkana (Rege and Tawah, 1999).
