A dual-purpose Merino producing fine wool and marketable carcass off the veld; it has excellent fertility and hardiness (Ramsay et al., n.d.).

Found in eastern Cape of South Africa; managed under semi-intensive production environment.
Origin: 
This breed is the result of a breeding programme initiated at the Dohne Agricultural Research Station near Stutterheim in the eastern Cape in 1939. It is developed out of a composite of local Peppin type Merino and the German Mutton Merino, to produce quality wool and a good slaughter lambs. The breed society was established in 1966 and continued to improve the breed and enhanced its efficiency in a commercial environment (Ramsay et al., n.d.).
